Čileanski predsjednik Gabriel Borić u četvrtak je najavio nacionalizaciju industrije litija kako bi oživio gospodarstvo zemlje i zaštitio njezin okoliš, prenosi Reuters te ističe da je Čile drugi najveći proizvođač tog metala ključnog za baterije u električnim automobilima.
Ovim šokantnim potezom u zemlji s najvećim rezervama litija će kontrola operacija tog dragocjenog metala prijeći s industrijskih divova SQM i Albemarle na zasebna poduzeća u državnom vlasništvu.
Najnoviji je to izazov za proizvođače električnih vozila (EV) koji se muče da osiguraju materijale za baterije jer sve više zemalja ide u smjeru zaštite svojih prirodnih resursa.
Meksiko je nacionalizirao zalihe litija prošle godine, a Indonezija je 2020. zabranila izvoz rudače nikla, također jednog od ključnih materijala za baterije za električna vozila.
– Ovo je prilika za gospodarski rast (…) ovo je najbolja prilika koju imamo za tranziciju prema održivom i razvijenom gospodarstvu. Ne možemo si priuštiti da ju propustimo – rekao je Borić i poručio da će se ubuduće ugovori sklapati kao javno-privatno partnerstvo s državnom kontrolom.
Vlada neće prekinuti sadašnje ugovore, ali se nada da će kompanije biti otvorene za sudjelovanje države i prije nego isteknu.
Ugovor SQM-a istječe 2030., a Albemarle 2043.
Obje tvrtke opskrbljuju Teslu, LG Energy Solution i druge proizvođače električnih vozila i baterija.
Borić će započeti dijalog sa zajednicama i parlamentarcima o pokretanju tvrtke za litij koja bi bila u potpunom vlasništvu države te će zatražiti potporu Kongresa u drugoj polovici godine.
Čileanski predsjednik tvrdi da želi zaštititi bioraznolikost te dijeliti dobrobiti rudarenja s autohtonim narodima i okolnim zajednicama.
